As one of Australasia’s leading five-star accommodation providers, we want to provide our guests with a world class, luxury experience whilst ensuring we maintain, and continue to improve on, our position as an environmentally friendly and sustainable resort.

We’re excited to announce the formation of our Millbrook Environmental Group, who will be taking the lead on all things environmental and sustainable within the resort. Formed at the beginning of 2019 the team is made up of ten passionate, eco-enthusiast members from all levels of the business & across multiple departments including landscaping, greenkeeping, food and beverage, front office, housekeeping and golf operations.

Meeting monthly, the Millbrook Environmental Group works collaboratively to identify existing business processes and practices that can be improved and actively pursue more efficient ways of reducing energy and waste across the entire resort.

Currently on the agenda for the group is to continue planting native species along the river banks and in areas of relatively unutilised land. This is done for several reasons, firstly to create diversity in the plant species at Millbrook and secondly to encourage more wildlife, particularly native birds to colonise the Resort by creating an almost continuous corridor of plantings. Lastly it helps to create optimum conditions for trout spawning and to reduce the inflow of any herbicides and nutrient run off.

Our Food & Beverage Department have just started a new initiative where all milk bottles are returned to the supplier to be recycled and we have placed two dedicated paper recycling bins in our office areas to help ensure paper waster is recycled.

We have numerous new & exciting initiatives in the pipeline and are excited to share these with you over the coming months!

Sustainability Spotlight

Did you know that Millbrook have a seasonal and sustainable kitchen garden & orchard with free range heritage chickens? The garden is looked after by our certified bio dynamic gardener & everything we grow is organic from seed. We work hard to use everything we possibly can for the garden from the Millbrook grounds e.g. the compost is made from kitchen food waste, mulch is made from all the falling autumn leaves, hay for the chickens is cut & bailed on Millbrook land, wood chips for paths & weed suppression around trees & garden beds all come from fallen trees at Millbrook.

The orchard has 80 fruit & nut trees with some that fruit early, middle & late in the season so that we have fruit all summer. The late harvest fruits are predominantly bottling fruit to service our breakfast buffet over the winter.
