Staff Spotlight - Regina Orlando

Introducing Regina, our dynamic Guest Services Manager! Originally from Hawaii, Regina's passion for the outdoors bought her all the way here to Queenstown. Since joining the team, she's quickly made a positive mark at Millbrook. She holds great appreciation for her coworkers and admires the approachability of the upper management team.

Tell us about yourself: 

I grew up in the beautiful Pacific NW region of the United States, and spent the last 15 years in Hawaii. Part of what drew me to New Zealand is that it feels like a combination of these two beautiful places- I came on holiday and completely fell in love with this country, and five months later accepted a position at Millbrook. The rest is history!
In my free time I love to surf, free dive, hike, camp, explore new places, and comb the beaches for shells and cool rocks. And of course, travel!

What does your typical day at Millbrook look like?

No two days are ever the same at Reception. As Guest Service Manager's we have administrative tasks to tend to- approving time sheets, conducting performance reviews, assigning amenities, scheduling airport transfers, making the daily operations plan for the resort, VIP/TLC lists, etc. We also assist with checking guests in and out, act as a telephone switchboard for most of the resort, delegate jobs as they come in (shuttles to Arrowtown, guest requests, minor maintenance problems), and handle any guest complaints or issues.

What do you love most about your job?

I really really love my coworkers- we have such a strong team, and everyone gets along so well. It makes coming to work so much fun! One of the things I love most about my job is interacting with people from all over the world. I also appreciate that I regularly get to use my problem solving and critical thinking skills to help ensure our guests have the most enjoyable stay possible.

What is it that makes Millbrook so special?

Aside from the beautiful scenery and diverse staff, the benefits and support we receive as employees of Millbrook is really special. I also appreciate how down to earth and approachable our upper management team is, which is definitely not always the case in luxury, five-star hospitality.

What is the best advice you've ever been given?

JUST DO IT!! Live your life, take the chance, trust yourself, and leap!

In the ocean - preferably a warm one!

Favourite food?

My absolute favourite dish is Vietnamese, called Bun Cha. You can only find it in Hanoi, so if you've ever there, please have some for me!
