Tell us about yourself?
I am originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Before coming to New Zealand, my passions were art, music and travelling. I am a trained artist with 20 years of experience in painting and drawing. This gave me a sixth sense when it comes to details and procedures to catch people's positive reactions as much as possible. After years travelling and experiencing a lot of amazing hospitality in many other countries, I felt like that could be something I could give back to people as well- amazing memories that will last for a lifetime. In Millbrook I found the chance to give customers the kind of service that I have enjoyed all these years, in a way I was giving back what I experienced in my travels. From art to hospitality, I don't rest until the customer tells me they will be coming back. When I am not working, I am usually drawing, painting, or playing an instrument. I enjoy the simple things in life, like an interesting looking cloud or trying to figure out what the exact color of the sky is (it is titanium white and phthalo blue, plus a touch of quinacridone magenta) or just sitting somewhere and enjoying a good coffee.
What does your typical day at Millbrook look like?
I arrive first thing in the morning and go straight to the coffee machine to make myself what will be my gasoline for the rest of the shift. I will look at our white board in the Clubhouse to see what my tasks are during the service and if there's anything important going on inside the venue as well. During service I always have my eye on guests, trying to read any body signs or actual signs that tells me that they might need assistance. After service there's a lot of preparation and cleaning for next days service. Overall, very simple tasks that matter a lot as well.
What do you love most about your job?
I love being able to treat our guests with the best service. Simple things like seeing an empty and dirty coffee cup on a table, it means that the guest enjoyed and finished that coffee and will most likely come back for another one. Also, listening to their stories and why they chose to come all the way here to stay with us. Everyday is different and that makes the job more exciting.
What is it that makes Millbrook so special?
I feel like the best feature of our resort is how open it is. Everywhere you look, you get the feeling that the resort goes on for miles, which it actually does. Even on my days off, I cannot help but come as a guest and just relax. I don't think many people can say that about their workplace.
What is the best advice you've ever been given?
''What do you ACTUALLY need in life?''
It's a simple question that I was asked once, and I ask myself that when I loose my way or forget why I do what I do.
Cats or dogs?
Cats
Favourite movie?
Mary Poppins- it helped me as a kid to understand why adults behave like they do, and it helps me as an adult to understand why sometimes I behave like I do.
Favourite place in the world?
Villa la Angostura in Neuquén Province, Patagonia, Argentina. Nothing will ever beat the simple lifestyle and feeling of staying in a log and stone cabin in a forest, on the foot of the mountains in the middle of the wild paradise that is Argentina's Patagonia. Although any place in Patagonia can take that spot honestly.
Favourite food?
My mom's fresh cakes, pizzas and pretty much anything she cooks. She is my favorite chef and cooking companion in the world.
