Emergency

In the event of an emergency, dial 111 from your mobile or dial 1111 from your hotel phone, and report the location of the emergency.

Earthquakes

What to do during an earthquake

  1. If you are inside a building, move no more than a few steps, drop, cover and hold. Stay indoors until the shaking stops and you are sure it is safe to exit. In most buildings in New Zealand you are safer if you stay where you are until the shaking stops.

  2. If you are outdoors when the shaking starts, move a few steps away from buildings, trees, streetlights, and power lines, then Drop, Cover and Hold.

What to do after an earthquake

  1. Expect to feel aftershocks.

  2. Check yourself for injuries and get first aid if necessary by dialing 0 from your hotel phone or making your way to reception if phones are out of order.

  3. If you are in a damaged building, try to get outside to the muster point if safe to do so.

  4. Report any damage to reception.

  5. Only use phones for short essential calls to keep the lines clear for emergency calls, this includes mobile phones.

  6. Muster points are noted on the fire emergency information on the back of the hotel room's entry doors.

  7. There is a defibrillator on site located at reception and the Health & Fitness Centre. Please dial 0 from your hotel phone to alert staff at reception or dial ext 7600 from your hotel phone for the Health & Fitness Centre if you need access to any of these.
